In 1964, America was on the brink of doing something that seemed completely outlandish - walking on the moon. Technological and societal advancements were right around the corner or currently in action, and some may say the traditional constraints of design and power within the automotive world were loosened up and/or thrown away in favor of a new, more futuristic view - a leap and a bound forward into a new view of society. The C2 Corvette was a one of the cars to follow this trajectory and implement a modernist way of looking at a sports car, it was all about the individual, visually experimental, and symbolic of America for the time and even today. Plenty of power was pushed from this 1964 Corvette's original, numbers matching 327 cubic inch V8 - around 300 horsepower, with a manual 4 speed transmission in place to really get the most out of the engine. The C2 Corvettes were produced in the famed St. Louis Plant, which was General Motors oldest production plant at the time. The craftsmanship put into this car by those plant workers is still fully felt when sitting down in the driver's seat and putting it in gear - the way one could throw this car around the corners was indicative of the focus on the individual. Handling was a main attractor for the Corvette, which weighed in around 3000 pounds. With a small frame, and tight turning - the C2 could hold its own weight when it comes to the cornering. This 1964 convertible was restored beautifully, with its original Riverside Red paint color being refinished, it's almost like stepping back in time to when America was in a technologically experimental phase, but even so it still holds on to some tradition - no power steering or brakes were optioned on this car, but this automobile was about the individual. One did not need the amenities General Motors had to offer on the options packages, or all the bells and whistles of a new car, it wasn't about that. All that was needed was a driver that cared about driving.
