The year 1972 prefaced a dark age for the performance centric cars that came to light in the 60's. Many did not make it out, and the ones that survived faced massive cuts to horsepower and torque. By 1973, lower compression ratios were becoming more prevalent for fuel efficiency, valve timing was off for the same purpose - the beginning of the oil crisis was marked, years and years of silence within the performance car market were coming - a long uphill battle was about to ensue for not only the manufacturers, but all of America. The 1972 corvette was one of the first to be hit by some of these EPA emissions regulations. This base model Stingray rocks a 350ci engine putting out around 200 horsepower and 300 lb/ft of torque, with a Turbo HydraMatic 3 speed automatic transmission. Rocking the gorgeous, eye catching Mille Miglia Red like it's right out of the factory, a complete, all original interior with all the bells and whistles, and being the last corvette to ever utilize front and rear chrome bumpers, this truly is a staple of a transitionary period within the American automotive scene, from the performance and muscle of the 60's, to the regulation ridden age of the 70's, this car sat right in the middle; restricted but not silenced. The Corvette, despite this crisis coming near, was able to make it on through into even the current years, not ever skipping a beat. The name is a staple of performance, it's a staple of car culture, it's a staple of automotive ingenuity. And the year 1972 could have been the last if not for this name being a staple in America.
